NiHao — Learn Chinese
A bilingual learning platform that teaches Chinese to Arabic and English speaking beginners, with audio, Pinyin and a guided path from the sounds of the language to full lessons.
The problem
A beginner cannot read Chinese characters yet, so most courses lose them on the first screen. NiHao needed a platform that starts where a beginner actually starts — the sounds and the tones — and carries Arabic and English explanations side by side throughout.
What we built
A learning experience organised as a path: a starting guide that puts Pinyin and tones before characters, levelled lessons with audio pronunciation and Arabic and English translation, a placement test for learners who are not starting from zero, short stories, a word of the day, a dictionary, and a blog answering the questions Arabic-speaking learners ask. The interface switches between English and Arabic, and works on a phone.
